A while back, a practice manager that had seen the amednews.com article we were featured in contacted me. She wanted me to provide some further insight in to practice management and EMR systems, what are things to look for, what worked and didn’t for us among other things.
She shared with me that her practice was on the verge of selecting an EMR and wanted to get my take on what to look for since, of course, I am such a big expert in this field (that was sarcasm by the way).
Anyway, we got to talking and she mentioned that she was new to pediatrics, so she wanted to find resources related to pediatric practice management online, software vendors and things like that.
So I put together a list (by no means is this a comprehensive list) for her with links of some of the things we discussed pertinent to pediatrics, practice management and tech vendors and emailed it to her.
I thought it would be a good idea to post it on the blog since I’m sure others might have similar inquiries.
Here is the email:
Nice talking to you today Kathy. Hope I was able to be helpful.
As discussed, I wanted to share with you some of the sites I talked about.
Practice Managment Online: http://practice.aap.org/
Pedsource: http://www.pedsource.com/ – Mostly peds online community. Free to join
Chips Blog: http://www.pedsource.com/chipsblog – Chip works for PCC, the company I talked about today. PCC also host several “pediatric” specific conferences that I attend and often recommend. Example: http://www.pedsource.com/events/jan2010conf
Practice Management Vendor: http://www.mdsuite.com/ – is the company that develops the PM system we use called Elligence.
JMJ-Tech: http://www.encounterpro.com/pediatric-emr-home.html – Quite possibly the ugliest website on the web today. This is the company that develops the EMR we used called EncounterPro. Not very pretty, but as I said, this is a system created specifically for pediatricians. The original owner of the company I think was/is a pediatrician.
Feel free to reach out any time.
I wish this list would be longer. Can you help me? What are some of the resources you have found valuable that you’d like to share? What PM or EMR do you use? Can you share your thoughts about each link as well?
If you have a site, a resource, company or whatever you’d like to suggest that has been valuable to you as health care professional, I’d like to know about it. Post a comment with the information and I will compile it all and post it on this blog.
